Hong Kong Recommendations

All of the places I visited and recommend in Hong Kong, compiled into a list so you don’t have to read every article.

Food

  • Temple Street Night Market – located on the Kowloon side, it spans several streets and blocks. There is one main street with shopping and then there are stalls and restaurants on the surrounding blocks. While the commerce side spoke english, many of the restaurants and food stalls did not. I used Google Translate to take pictures of the menu and then pointed at what I wanted. Don’t let the language barrier intimidate you!
  • Cafe de Coral – a chain restaurant that is delicious! It’s a great place to grab a quick lunch.
  • Studio Caffeine – a western style coffee shop. If you are a digital nomad or just need a place with wifi and caffeine, this is a cute cafe.
  • Yum Cha – this place has THE CUTEST dumplings and they are extremely tasty. The custard dumplings were one of the best things I ate the entire trip, in addition to being adorable.
  • Bread Talk – a chain bakery that had really good pastries but I would skip the coffee.

Parks and Nature

  • Kowloon Park – set aside a couple of hours for exploring. There are ponds, waterfalls, statues, and an aviary.
  • Hong Kong Park – waterfalls, turtle ponds, and the Tea Museum.
  • Dragon’s Back – if you like hiking, this is a challenging but beautiful hike. I recommend looking up a route on AllTrails so you don’t get lost. I chose a path that ended in Shek O, a small beach town.
  • Victoria Harbor – located right on the river, there is usually a themed display. When I went, there was a huge Valentine’s day display and several Year of the Rabbit displays. There were also swings and picnic tables.

Things to Do and Places to See

  • Tai Kwun – check out what the featured exhibit is. I went during “Myth Makers” and it was fascinating. It told a story and used art from all over Asia. I’ve never seen an exhibit so well done.
  • Lantou Island – a giant Buddha and some beautiful sights. Take the glass bottom tram to get to the top and then hike down to Tai O to finish the day.
  • PMQ – local artisans located within Soho, the posh shopping district
  • Sik Sik Yuen Wong Sai Tin Temple – don’t miss the back! Behind the temple there is a walkway of decorated bridges and pagodas that had a lot fewer people visiting than in the main area.
  • Nan Lian Garden and Chi Lin Nunnery – a garden and temple that are connected. The garden is a traditional Chinese garden and is stunning.
